Ron Mello Studio Arts
Initially inspired by the brushes of the late Keith Lebenzon, all Ron Mello Brushes are unique, handmade and one-of-a-kind.
Some of my brushes
lean more to sculpture but, all are FUNCTIONAL.. A variety of
natural and synthetic hairs are used in my brushes, including but not
limited to: moose, deer, goat, sable, squirrel, fox, bison and elk as well
as an occasional synthetic. Most of the hair in the long tipped brushes are cut and left in their original tapered condition
resulting in occasional ambient hairs (Shorter hairs on the outside of the
tip.) Several groups are
stacked and rolled together. Some tips have 2 or more kinds of hair for
performance differences and as a result, are
extremely versatile. I also use goat hair and other purchased hair for
more consistent Sumi like performance, Inquire! Most brushes will come to a single hair point while
others have squared or chisel shaped tips for mop and Sumi-E effects. Handles are created from bamboo, driftwood, turned,
carved or painted wood as well as other materials including: found
objects, antler and various metals. I pride myself on an attention to
detail. These brushes will handle differently
from any brushes you have used in the past.. Each one being unique...
